Happy Thanks & Giving

Happy Thanksgiving eve! This is one of, if not my favorite, weeks of the year. No pressure. All about family, food, fun and faith.

I have lots of childhood memories of Thanksgivings past: they usually revolved around dad wanting to eat dinner during halftime of the Detroit Lions game. He was a big Lions fan and, I guess, his way of thinking was that he could eat during halftime-which was usually a bit longer than normal for all the festivities surrounding THAT day and THAT game. Then, come back to his recliner for the 2nd half. let the food settle a bit, then…PIE! Well thought out, I must say. What are some of your favorite memories? Let me know. I’d love to hear ‘em.

Thanksgiving is-my opinion here-all about gratitude. To me, being grateful is a verb. An action word. “Being grateful” is all on the INSIDE. “Acting grateful”, well that requires us to do something. That’s why, I think, it’s called ThanksGIVING. It’s all about that GIVING part.

Now, I am not talking about writing a check, dropping a dollar or two in the Salvation Army kettle. No. Don’t get it wrong though. I am not saying those things aren’t important. They are VERY important. Remember though, I’m talking about “action”. Challenge: practice giving..of yourself. Over the next 3-4 days of this wonderful, long holiday weekend, give OF yourself to someone else. Buy the person in line behind you their coffee. Give someone a smile(from the heart), call an old friend that you haven’t heard from in quite some time(who knows, perhaps they’ve been waiting on YOU to call!).

There you go. Thanks & Giving. It’s a beautiful thing. I love you.

Be well,

Jeff
