Humpty Dumpty: The Comeback

Happy spring! The temperatures are finally rising, flowers and buds on trees are beginning to bloom and pollen is in the air! I could do without the pollen though.

Spring means new life, new beginnings and hope. It also means jumping back on that horse called, “resolution” and getting outside and back to exercise. Oh, that finger you think I am pointing well, it is at ME.

Humpty Dumpty. You remember good ‘ol “HD” don’t you. A happy, care-free, just rolling through life chap….until he wasn’t. He fell off of that life is good, I’ve got the tiger by the tail, James Brown(c’mon, hum that tune with me..” I feeel good”!) singin’ guy. Humpty fell off the wall. Body in shambles. What now?

I’ve joked with Joyce over the years that I am HD. Between November 2020 and November 2024 I had 3 major surgeries. Over 6 hours of general anesthesia. Both knees replaced and low back surgery. And yes, that’s on top of my left hip being replaced 16 years ago. And yes, the right hip….well, you can guess what is coming down the track for it. Through all of this, I’ve smiled, kept my chin up and moved forward. Set back. Step up-hey, that sounds familiar. It hasn’t always been easy. Very few things in life worth working for are easy.

The comeback. If you follow me on social media, you may have noticed that whenever I post something related to my health: doing a hot yoga workout, riding my bike or, now, going to the gym to do strength training, I’ll throw in the hashtag, “the comeback”. What is that, you might ask. Good question. What are YOU coming back from? How have you been broken in the past and now is the time-not tomorrow-to begin your comeback. You see, we all have our own stories. our own scripts. Don’t be afraid to write another chapter or two to yours. Move forward. Begin the process of getting better each day. Improve 1% today. Add up those days and look where you could be 30 days from now. Remarkable.

So, join me. Cast aside your inner fears. Throw away your self-doubt. Start your own comeback. I’ll be rooting for you.

Be well,

Jeff
